In the autumn and winter, you can see Northern lights above Vík and the area.
The best conditions are a clear sky with as little light pollution as possible.
The Icelandic Meteorological Office has a very good real-time map of the cloud cover over Iceland if you want to know the best spots to see them.
Visit http://en.vedur.is/weather/forecasts/aurora for more information.
If you have a car, we recommend going a little outside of Vík to have as little light as possible and use a long exposure setting on your camera along with a tripod to guarantee the best results if you want to photograph them. DO NOT IN ANY CONDITION STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD, find an lay-by (rest area) and stop there!!
